Omaha Psychotherapy is here because we believe in people. We believe that people have the power to heal from their past and we believe that people have the power to create better lives.
We believe that people are people.
Many people come to us believing they are sick or crazy or bad. They’ve been labeled with disorders and diagnoses and problems. They were told they needed therapy. Their doctors told them in order to get medicine they needed to see a therapist. Their spouses told them that they needed to get therapy if they didn’t want to get divorced. Their employers told them that they needed therapy or they might lose their job.
By the time people get to us they feel like bad people.
We soon see that these people aren’t bad. They aren’t sick. They aren’t crazy.
We find out that these people who accused of being “bad” are often hurting. Or lonely. Or sad. Or grieving. Or unfulfilled. Or ashamed. Or stuck. Or not feeling loved or valued. Not bad.
In our decades of experience we’ve learned that when people have the courage to seek help and support, their lives get better.
We’ve learned that everyone is different. We’ve learned that everyone is unique. That each person comes from a different family and background, bringing a unique set of experiences, beliefs, fears, needs, supports and strengths.
We’ve learned that therapy isn’t a one size fits all tool. As we’ve evolved in our professions, we have learned that there is more than one approach and tool that helps people. That there are a variety of approaches that work. We have seen people benefit from a variety of approaches. Different things work for different people.
We’ve learned that for some people, therapy, using a specific and technical and specific technique, like EMDR, works wonders to heal past trauma.
We’ve learned that for other people, coaching, which allows for more flexibility and focuses on setting goals and overcoming obstacles and resistance, is exactly what is needed to allow them to move forward in their lives.
With years of experience and success stories, we have built a practice that includes a network of skilled practitioners, approaches, resources, and tools that work in a variety of different ways for a variety of different people.
We’ve learned that when we respect each person as an individual and take the time to understand their needs and goals, we can create a strategy and connect people to a unique plan and professional that can really help that person accomplish what they are looking for.
